May Meeting Recap!

Hello knitters!  Here is the recap of the meeting last week.  We had an awesome group of 30 knitters with a couple of new guests!  With everyone’s hectic schedules, the meeting served as a welcome break to enjoy knitting & friends.  And, I got my knitting mojo back…which had to be pushed aside to get through my April-May commitments.  A few of our regulars were unable to join us…we missed you!

Show & Tell:  You all know that this is ALWAYS my favorite part of every meeting! What a variety of projects.

Program:  Entrelac

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always loved the look of Entrelac knitting but figured it looked way too fussy to do.  All that turning and purling back, ugh!  When I polled the group at the meeting, only a few had actually tried it!  One of our members suggested this for a program (please let us know what you want to try).

Lorrie typed up a basic entrelac 101 instruction sheet to walk you step by step.  It really helped me understand the concept.  I will post this to our website on the “Favorite Things” page (sorry, it won’t let me upload it right now) this weekend.

Here is a great video explaining Entrelac if you missed the meeting.

Many were interested in how to Knit back backwards (so you don’t have to turn your work and purl back).  This shows both Continental and American style knitting!  Looks SUPER easy!

After trying out the technique, it really didn’t bother me to turn and purl back as much as I thought it would.  And now, after seeing how simple it is to Knit Backwards, I think I might just cast on a narrow Entrelac Scarf and try it out.  That will make a perfect winter gift for a friend!

Announcements:

  • Yarn and Supplies Sale at Marnette’s House!  June 8th, Marnette and the Weavers’ Guild will be hosting a swap/sale/trade, so pull out those stashes and bring them over.  Marnette lives just North of Newton.  We will post all of the details on our Ravlery thread.
  • The Midwest Weavers’ Conference is coming to Kansas in June!  Yes, this says weaving, but there are also vendors and knitting classes throughout the event.  This is a huge event that will take place at Emporia State University.  In fact, classes are already filling up!  Click here for details!  Maybe we can carpool there.  And, the Shepherd’s Mill is supplying this year’s yarn!  Woo Hoo!  This conference rarely comes to KS.
  • 2014 Yarn Hop!  Mark your calendars for Oct 17-20th for the annual hop.  Details will be posted soon!
  • Charity Knitting: check out our Ravelry thread for organizations looking to help provide kitted items for the community.  We plan to update this throughout the year, so the holiday rush doesn’t creep on us!  If you know of any charity projects, please post them in the thread!!!

Thank you for the yummy snacks ladies!  You really out did yourselves!

See you next month for the June Guild meeting, Tuesday June 11th from 6-8pm  –  Harvey County Courthouse (Newton with carpools from North & South).  We will be viewing all of the Design entries & awarding prizes!!!

Happy knitting,

Kim
