Happy I LOVE YARN DAY! Here’s an update of our last meeting. I came away so energized and excited about my knitting friends! We were a bit smaller group (around 16 members), including a couple of new guests and members! The smaller group allowed for lots of discussion time. I’m always amazed by the knitters in this community. Through all of the community events and the surrounding LYS community, I have met so many interesting knitters lately (they always have a story) with so many cool tricks and knitting knowledge to share. This is why I wanted to commit my volunteer time to building a strong, supportive Guild. Can you feel me smiling?
On to the meeting recap. I know many members were unable to join due to busy schedules this month. We missed you!!
Show & Tell: You all know that this is ALWAYS my favorite part of every meeting! Check out the slideshow. Everyone displayed their projects during break and I snapped a few photos (sorry, a few project photos didn’t turnout so I don’t have all of them).
WSU Yarn Bombing Tour:
We took a tour (via Facebook page link here). I was hoping the professional photos would be done, but maybe for next meeting. There is no way to capture the energy and feeling that was on campus the week the pieces were up. Hundreds of people took family photos and pictures of the colorful artwork. It was a rush, but well worth it. I’m so thankful I was able to participate. My mind is already spinning with other ideas. Do you have any?
Wrap It Up! KAL Announcement:
We are excited to announce our latest KAL for CKKG members! It will officially kick-off at the Nov Guild meeting (9/13), but here are a few details (more will be posted next week & all members will receive an invitation with details):
Each member who participatest will bring yarn for their own project (this way you are guaranteed to love the color & fiber when you receive your finished accessory). You will place your yarn and an info card in a room where we will draw numbers for people to come and select a yarn they would like to knit with.
So, for this KAL, you will know who you are knitting for and will be able to stalk their Ravelry page for pattern ideas. This KAL will focus on cowls, scarves, shawlettes, etc. We are wrapping up the year with a fun little KAL! We hope you join us. There is nothing like receiving a handknit item (I’m only used to giving items)!
Sound fun?
More details next week!
Education Program: Cables
Since we had a smaller group, we decided instead of splitting into 2 groups (beginning/more advanced) we chose to review cables as a group. This allowed for some excellent discussion among all of our members! We covered the basics and then discussed tools, tricks for keeping track of cables and effects on your knitting fabric. Here are some great resources on cables:
Knitting Daily’s Program: Knitting a Basic Cable
Knit Pick’s: Intarsia Cables and a handout for basic cables.
See you next month for the November Guild meeting, Tuesday November 13th from 6-8pm – Location To Be Announced (we’ll email you an invitation next week). Since holiday knitting is gearing up, we’ll have more of a party with some dedicated knitting time.
Happy knitting,
Kim
