Hello knitters! Here is the recap of the June meeting. We had an awesome group of knitters with a couple of new guests! With everyone’s hectic schedules, the meeting served as a welcome break to enjoy knitting & friends. A few of our regulars were unable to join us…we missed you!
Show & Tell: Here are some photos of current & FO from the meeting! Sorry, I only had my phone camera.
Program: Needle Felting
I’ve always loved the look of projects that incorporate needle felting, I’ve just never taken the time to purchase the supplies and try it. Boy, have I been missing out! Marnette put together small kits and led us through a fun, interactive lesson in needle felting…and nobody got hurt (well, at least we didn’t have to call an ambulance or anything like that)!
The technique is very simple if you have the correct tools. The kits included 2 needles, a peice of felt and dense foam and all the fiber we could play with. If you haven’t held one of these needles, the first thing you will notice is that is have nasty barbs on the end of it that help push the fiber through the felt. There are tons of videos and how to demonstrations online if you missed our program. Mainly, just try to avoid stabbing yourself in the stomach or lap…which I’ve already done multiple times.
Announcements:
- The Alpaca Farm Tour is Saturday, July 27th! Full details will be announced next Tuesday, but mark your calendar! The Royal Plush Alpaca Farm is located in just Southeast of Wichita in Rose Hill, KS. We will meet at the farm (carpool details will be posted soon) at Noon for a picnic and followed by a private tour of the farm! The cost of the tour is $5/person, which can be used towards a purchase in their shop (they sale fiber & yarn)!
- 2014 Yarn Hop! Mark your calendars for Oct 17-20th for the annual hop. Details will be posted soon!
- Charity Knitting: check out our Ravelry thread for organizations looking to help provide kitted items for the community. We plan to update this throughout the year, so the holiday rush doesn’t creep on us! If you know of any charity projects, please post them in the thread!!!
Thank you for the yummy snacks ladies! You really out did yourselves!
The July Guild meeting on Tuesday July 9th is cancelled in place of the Alpaca Farm Tour & Picnic!
Happy knitting,
