Hello knitters! Here is the recap of the meeting for you to enjoy. We had an awesome group and welcomed a few guests to our meeting.
Show & Tell: You all know that this is ALWAYS my favorite part of every meeting!
Design Competition Announcement:
We were SUPER excited to unveil CKKG’s first design competition! If you have ever dreamt of being a designer, but wasn’t sure where to start (or if you are a design pro)…here is your chance! This friendly competition will walk you through the basics of creating a design & you will end up with a custom, felted Accessory Bag to hold all of your knitting knit knacks! See the handout for details & rules or join our conversation on our Raverly page. Videos, tips and links to knitters’ graph paper will be found there as well. Kim also shared the pattern of her original design, which can be downloaded from Ravelry for free.
Not sure where to start? Email us or call for help. Lisa, Joan & Kim are heading up this competition and we are glad to help you turn the image in your head into a wonderful bag! Plus, you could technically write up the pattern and place it on Raverly! There will be AWESOME prizes for the top 3 designs, plus bragging rights of course.
Think of this bag as a blank rectangle that can be modified with color-work, cables or other texture, stripes, embroidery, etc!
- Spring Craftacular: Handmade & Vintage Market. Saturday, April 13th from 10-4pm. Free admission. Lorrie is having a booth and might have some space, so contact her if you are interested. Items being sold at this market are very well done, trendy jewelry, clothes, accessories and more! Messiah Lutheran Church-1241 N. Ridge.
- Marnette announced that the Weavers’ Guild is interested in co-hosting a Spring Yarn Swap/sale with us! Woo Hoo! Pull out that stash and get ready to spring clean. More details coming soon! (Marnette is also planning a Handmade Soap Party, details will be sent out)
- The Midwest Weavers’ Conference is coming to Kansas in June! Yes, this says weaving, but there are also vendors and knitting classes throughout the event. This is a huge event that will take place at Emporia State University. In fact, classes are already filling up! Click here for details! Maybe we can carpool there. And, the Shepherd’s Mill is supplying this year’s yarn! Woo Hoo! This conference rarely comes to KS.
- Charity Knitting: check out our Ravelry thread for organizations looking to help provide kitted items for the community. We plan to update this throughout the year, so the holiday rush doesn’t creep on us! If you know of any charity projects, please post them in the thread!!!
CKKG Board Retreat update:
The CKKG Board met for our Annual Retreat on January 5th. We reviewed the guild By-Laws, meetings, events and programs for 2013 and much more. Kim passed around copies of the updated By-Laws & Board Structure. We will be putting out a call for nominations in May for two At-Large positions (Membership & Education) which are elected annually. Please let us know if you are interested.
Events: We also planned out the Education Programs for the rest of the year. These are flexible, so if you have ideas for techniques or speakers please let us know! We have several events in the planning stages (including a trip) and a guest speaker, so stay tuned for those announcements coming soon!
Thank you for the yummy snacks ladies! You really out did yourselves! Pat’s soup hit the spot!
See you next month for the April Guild meeting, Tuesday April 9th from 6-8pm – Harvey County Courthouse (Newton with carpools from North & South).
