December Meeting Recap

The holidays have arrived!  It was so great seeing all of the holiday knitted gift items…the projects that weren’t already wrapped!  We missed our members that had conflicting plans last week or were finishing their college finals (hope they went well)!

We wish you a happy and healthy holiday season!

Show & Tell:  You all know that this is ALWAYS my favorite part of every meeting!  Check out the slideshow.  (sorry, a few project photos didn’t turnout so I don’t have all of them and let me know if I have anyone’s project listed incorrectly).

Wrap It Up! KAL update:

Everyone seems to be working away (heck, half of you are already finished) on their swap buddy’s project.  Of course, most of us are choosing to keep their buddy’s project a secret until the exchange, so we didn’t get to see to many of the actual projects.

Please check out our Ravelry page for questions/pattern ideas and more.  There is nothing like receiving a handknit item (I’m only used to giving them)!  I can’t wait to see the finished gifts in January!!

If you have ideas for future Knit-A-Longs, please let us know!!

Program:  Candy Cane Ponies and Reindeer

We had so much fun knitting our candy cane ponies at the guild meeting!  This is such a quick and clever pattern.  I plan to use a herd of them to decorate gifts I give this year.  I was trying to figure out what I could do with it after the holidays, when Joan mentioned that she takes it off the candy cane and packs it with her ornaments.  Then all she has to do next year, is slip in a new candy cane.  Brilliant!  They also look super cute around the house on on a tree.  The pattern is $2 on Ravelry here.

Modification: You know how knitters always want to modify patterns.  So, we decided it would be super easy to make this pattern into a Reindeer by adding a tiny red pom pom for the nose and using pipe cleaners for the antlers!

Announcements:

  • The CKKG Board will be meeting for annual retreat to make plans for the upcoming year and to discuss the structure of the Guild and monthly meetings.  If you have ANY ideas, please let us know.  We want the guild to reflect what our members want, so we need to know what is working and what isn’t working.  Please feel free to send us a quick email, telling us what you think/want to us at CentralKsKnittersGuild@gmail.com or on our Ravelry page.  You can also chat with one of the Board members individually if you prefer.  The retreat is scheduled for January 5th.
  • Charity Knitting: check out our Ravelry thread for organizations looking to help provide kitted items for the community.  We plan to update this throughout the year, so the holiday rush doesn’t creep on us!  If you know of any charity projects, please post them in the thread!!!

Thank you for all of they yummy cookies and snacks!!

See you next month for the January Guild meeting, Tuesday January 8th from 6-8pm  –  Harvey County Courtshouse.  Can’t wait to go home with my knitted gift from the KAL!!

Happy knitting,

Kim

PS – Please don’t be offended if you didn’t hear about us prior to this guild meeting.  Grab a friend and come check us out!  Find us on Ravelry and Facebook as Central KS Knitters Guild.
